Battlefield's Finalists Had More Than One Gate to Pass

Startup Battlefield's twenty stage competitors were selected from the Battlefield 200, then narrowed to five finalists after their live demonstrations. TechCrunch editors reviewed judges' notes following hours of deliberation before choosing that final group. The named finalists included Apate, Flox Intelligence, Intero Biosystems and Industrial Next. Intero ultimately won, but the selection structure shows how the event moved from a broad cohort to a much smaller competitive field. That creates several different forms of recognition rather than one undifferentiated startup badge. Being selected, reaching the stage and reaching the final are separate results. The startup world may prefer frictionless funnels, but this particular funnel came with live demonstrations, judges and enough narrowing to make a spreadsheet feel theatrical.
